Manor Park Coaching Opportunity

Monday, September 19, 2022 - Posted by Spence

Head  Squash and Racketball Coach Manor Park
  Manor Park Sports Club Malvern

The Club: The Manor Park club is a long established multi-sport  club- www.manorparkmalvern.com.  It has 4 recently renovated squash courts, 2 of which are glass backed, all  with under-floor heating.
Hours: The Club  is happy to pay £25-30 per hour for 6.5 hours of group coaching per week during  school term time, as well as 3 hours of administration time per week at £10-15 per  hour to cover marketing, promotion and administration activities. In addition  the Club will support and pay for holiday camps at the agreed coaching rate.  This will result in a guaranteed retainer of up to £10,000 in year 1. The year  2 arrangements will be subject to review and agreement after 9 months, to take  account of the success being achieved. In the event that the club profits from  the group coaching any profits will be shared 50:50 with the coach as an  incentive to grow the class sizes.
In addition to the retainer we are confident that the right  coach will have the ability to significantly grow their revenue from coaching  and other earnings: for instance, through one to one sessions, work with both  the County and local private schools, racket stringing and work with other  clubs in the area.
Background to this  Role: Manor Park has had a junior development programme running alongside  adult coaching for a number of years but is looking to take it to another level  with an increased emphasis on working with local schools and other community  groups, as well as further developing the opportunities with other clubs in the  area.
Purpose of the Role:  Are you passionate about promoting and  expanding squash and racketball to new players and working with our current  junior and adult players to help develop their skills in a fun and enjoyable  environment? We are looking for an ambitious coach to work with players of all  levels and ages and to help promote the sport locally. This is an ideal role  for someone who is looking to build their coaching career and is keen to make  their own mark in developing squash and racketball in Worcestershire. The  previous coach developed links with local private schools and the County before  re-locating, having created a sound and growing coaching base. While this is a  short-term contract, we are hopeful, with the right candidate, it will be  extended well into the future.

  Main Duties and  Responsibilities:

  • Communicating with the squash juniors and  coaching them twice weekly, with sessions ideally on a Monday and Saturday.
  •
  • Planning, communicating and delivering social  squash and racketball classes for improvers and those returning to the sport.
  •
  • Delivering 1 to 1 coaching to members and other  squash and racketball players in the area.
  •
  • Promoting and marketing Squash within  Worcestershire including running the ‘Squash Stars’ programme supported by the  County.
  •
  • Promoting and running junior squash camps during  the holiday for both members and non-members.
  •
  • Working with the squash and racketball committee  to market and promote the club.
  •
  • Identifying and hosting adult and junior  tournaments, both internal and external, at the club.
  •
  • Support and build on the positive club culture  that exists.

Personal Specification

  • Minimum England Squash Level 2.
  •
  • A good enthusiastic communicator with juniors  and adults.
  •
  • Highly organised, efficient and most importantly  reliable.
  •
  • Has the confidence to market and build the  programme.

Worcestershire Squash County Closed

Monday, February 7, 2022 - Posted by Spence

The weekend of 22nd & 23rd of January saw the welcome return of our Worcs County Closed following the Covid enforced cancellation in 2021.

After a very difficult 2 years for us all it was great to see many familiar faces once again in a Squash environment. It was especially encouraging to see some new faces together with a number of our County juniors taking part.

Another positive was the increase in the total number of entrants which when split over the age categories which was up on the numbers for the 2020 competition. I’m sure this makes us realise just how much we had all missed that competitive element to our Squash.

Once again, the standard of Squash was excellent over the whole weekend despite most players needing to be play several games in a day.

It was great to see all the finals being played in a competitive spirit but also in a sporting manner.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Thanks to all the organisers players, supporters, markers and helpers as your enthusiasm ensured Worcs County Squash also came out a Big Winner.

Many thanks to Bett, Spence, Arden Estate (sponsor) Brian Gurnett (referee & marking duties) and our host Stourbridge LTC and staff.
